At the begining of #Alongthewallin80days we talked about the amazing national trail and walking Hadrians Wall, however if your more of a pedals and 2 wheels kind of person, then read on...

Exploring Hadrian’s Wall Country on two wheels is a joy. Here you’ll find quiet country lanes, cycle paths and bridleways that make cycling a pleasure. Pedaling through this landscape will make your holiday all the more memorable as you connect more immediately to the world around you.

Hadrian’s Cycleway is National Route 72, part of the National Cycle Network maintained by Sustrans, the charity that supports travelling by foot, bike or public transport. Linking the North and Irish Seas, Hadrian’s Cycleway is signposted along its entire 174 miles, following along the Roman frontier and the Cumbrian coastline. Buy your official route map from www.sustransshop.co.uk

For shorter routes, there are numerous do-in-a-day rides, both circular and linear, incorporating bike-carrying public transport if need be, available from TICs or from www.visithadrianswall.co.ukWhichever route you choose, you can discover the many Roman sites dotted throughout the World Heritage Site, and a variety of other historic and modern attractions and picturesque villages, all set in glorious scenery.
