Keeping up with the course of the wall and the milecastles, todays blog is about milecastle 55. 

Milecastle 55 Fact File

Milecastle 55  is known as Low Wall 

grid reference NY53596437

​It is situated in a pasture field, east of the village of Walton, Cumbria

measures 22 metres east to west

Hadrian's Wall can be found near Milecastle 55 and survives as a substantial turf covered bank, up to 1.4 metres high

Located and partly excavated in 1900 which yielded some late 4th century pottery.

There is no surface trace of the milecastle, except a low turf platform visible as a slight rise in the hedgeline.

Milecastle 55 has 2 associated turrets, Turret 55A and Turret 55B.
